2015 Highlights
Over a period of 5 years, Osaka University and the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (China), Research Center for Applied Sciences, Academia Sinica (Taiwan) and, from 2014 fiscal year, the Centre for Disruptive Photonic Technologies (CDPT), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) (Singapore) have conducted a high-level joint research of nano-photonics and exchanged personnel, especially young researchers both dispatch and acceptance of students and thus founded the Nanophotonics research and education center in Asia. This is performed as part of further development of international research collaboration of Osaka University under the support of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. So far, we have held international symposium eight times in Japan and partner countries, and conducted14 joint researches and many researcher’s exchanges. So far, the total number of dispatch of students and researchers has reached 74 people and 960 man-days and those of acceptance 131 people and 2102 man-days, in total more than 3000 man-days. This project is highly valued by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, in the mid-term evaluation of 2013 fiscal year, has gained only the best of the S comprehensive evaluation. This time, we hold this international joint meeting for concluding our five-year project and discussing future development at Osaka University.

S-1 Seventh Photonics Center Symposium "Nanophotonics in Asia 2012"

date: 18th (Tue), 19th (Wed), September 2012
stay at 17th (Mon: Respect-for-the Aged Day/ holiday) night in Kanazawa and the program will start early in the morning on 18th.
JSAP-OSA Joint Symposia will be held at the 73rd Fall Meeting/The Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP), September 11-14, 2012, MATSUYAMA EHIME.
venue: Kanazawa Excel Hotel Tokyu, Japan
Organized by Photonics Center, Osaka University
Funded by JSPS Asian CORE Program, MEXT, MOST and NSC
Organizing committee
Scope:
The 7th Photonics Center Symposium will set the main focus in biomedical photonics and entrepreneurship. As is well recognized, photons possess relatively low energy and can harmlessly interact with biological systems. This great feature of the photon has been utilized for investigation of basic problems in biology and medicine and even applied to medical diagnostics and treatments.
In the symposium, we will organize sessions with invited speakers carrying out research in advanced photonic technologies related to optical microscopy for bioimaging and molecular analysis in nanometer scale. Topics include the recent advancement in fluorescence probes especially new functions for biosensing and emission mechanisms. We will also discuss applications of biophotonic technology to the medical field of tissue engineering and function recovery.
Entrepreneurship is another topic which we find great importance in. Photonics is expected to create innovation in industry and society due to its unlimited scientific and technological advancement as we have seen in the recent progress made in nanophotonics, plasmonics and biophotonics. The industrialization of photonics by small and medium enterprises promoted by leading scientists/researchers would be indispensable for such innovation.
